Mr. Food's Date Nut Bread

Total Time: 1 hr 30 mins Preparation Time: 30 mins Cook Time: 1 hr

Ingredients

  • 2 cups dates, pitted and chopped
  • 2/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons butter or 2 tablespoons margarine
  • 1 cup very hot water
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts

Recipe

  • 1 in a large bowl, combine dates, sugar, honey, and butter; add hot water, stir and let stand for 15 minutes.
  • 2 preheat oven to 325 degrees.
  • 3 stir egg and vanilla into date mixture.
  • 4 in a separate bowl, combine remaining ingredients.
  • 5 stir the flour mixture into the date mixture.
  • 6 pour batter into a greased 9x5 inch loaf pan.
  • 7 bake for 1 hour or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • 8 cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then remove and let cool completely on a wire rack.
