Nutty Cranberry Scones

Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup butter, very cold
- 1/2 cup minus 2 tablespoons buttermilk
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/2 cup walnuts, chopped
- 1 cup dried cranberries, chopped
Recipe
- 1 mix dry ingredients well.
- 2 cut in butter until the mixture resembles coarse pebbles.
- 3 beat together egg, vanilla, and buttermilk, then add to dry ingredients and mix briefly (do not overmix dough).
- 4 add walnuts and dried cranberries then mix briefly.
- 5 turn dough out on well-floured cutting board. knead briefly, working in enough flour to make a stiff dough.
- 6 shape into rectangle about 1 1/2 inches thick. cut into 12 squares.
- 7 bake at 400f for 20 minutes.
