Maple Syrup Layer Cake

Ingredients

- 2 1/2 cups flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup pure maple syrup
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- 1/2 cup hot water
- 1 cup finely chopped walnuts (optional)
Recipe
- 1 cream butter and sugar well. add in eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
- 2 blend in maple syrup and vanilla.
- 3 gradually add sifted dry ingredients by thirds, alternately with the hot water; and ending with dry ingredients. gently stir in walnuts.
- 4 pour into 2- 8 inch greased and floured layer pans.
- 5 bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes.
- 6 cool on wire rack for 10 minutes. remove layers and cool completely on wire racks.
- 7 frost.
