Mrs. Moore's Chocolate Cake

Total Time: 1 hr Preparation Time: 30 mins Cook Time: 30 mins

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter or 1/2 cup margarine
  • 3 -4 tablespoons cocoa
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 3 tablespoons cocoa
  • 6 tablespoons buttermilk
  • 1 (16 ounce) box powdered sugar
  • 1 cup chopped pecans or 1 cup walnuts
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Recipe

  • 1 cake: sift flour and sugar together.
  • 2 heat butter, cocoa, water and oil until it boils.
  • 3 pour hot mixture over flour and sugar.
  • 4 mix well by hand!
  • 5 add buttermilk and soda.
  • 6 add eggs and vanilla.
  • 7 mix well.
  • 8 bake in a well greased and floured 9x13 pan at 350 for 30-35 minutes.
  • 9 icing: mix butter, cocoa and buttermilk in heavy sauce pan.
  • 10 heat until boils.
  • 11 remove from heat.
  • 12 add powdered sugar and mix well.
  • 13 add pecans or walnuts and vanilla.
  • 14 pour over cake while cake is still hot.
