California Walnut Bread

Total Time: 1 hr 10 mins Preparation Time: 10 mins Cook Time: 1 hr

Ingredients

  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped walnuts, divided
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1/4 cup shortening, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Recipe

  • 1 sift flour with sugar, baking powder, and salt into a mixing bowl.
  • 2 stir in 1-1/4 cups of the walnuts.
  • 3 add egg, shortening, milk and vanilla.
  • 4 mix just until the ingredients are blended.
  • 5 pour batter into a greased loaf pan.
  • 6 sprinkle remaining walnuts over the top.
  • 7 bake at 350 degrees for 60 to 70 minutes.
  • 8 let stand in the loaf pan for about 10 minutes, then remove to a wire rack to cool completely.
