Mud Bars

Ingredients
- 1 cup unsalted butter (at room temperature)
- 2 cups firmly packed light brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- 3 cups rolled oats
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- salt, pinch
- 1 cup chopped walnuts
- 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
- 1 (12 ounce) package semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 1/2 cups chopped walnuts
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- salt, pinch
Recipe
- 1 preheat oven to 350 degrees
- 2 generously grease 9x13 pan.
- 3 cream 1 cup butter with sugar in a large bowl.
- 4 add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
- 5 mix in oats, flour, vanilla, baking soda and salt.
- 6 stir in 1 cup walnuts and set aside.
- 7 combine milk and chocolate in top of double boiler set over hot water and stir until chocolate melts.
- 8 add remaining ingredients and blend well.
- 9 spoon 2/3 of the oat mixture into prepared pan, compacting with a fork. spread chocolate mixture over top.
- 10 crumble remaining oat mixture and chocolate and spread with a fork.
- 11 bake until golden, 25 to 30 minutes.
- 12 cool.
- 13 cut into 2 inch bars.
